The English International, who is widely considered by many as the greatest Liverpool player of all times, led his side to Champions League glory in 2005.
Besides that, he has also lifted the FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup during his stay at Anfield.
However, the talismanic midfielder has not won a single league title with the Merseyside club.
As the things stand currently, winning the EPL trophy might not even be on the club’s agenda; at least for the next couple of years. Given that the Reds have failed to secure a place in Champions League football in their previous three attempts, the once
giants of English football have currently set their focus on breaking into the top-four.
Nonetheless, Eriksson highlighted the fact that the Reds are currently going through a re-building process under new manager, Brendan Rodgers. Hence, he opined that they will require considerable time to mount a challenge for the title, but by then, the
32-year old might not be around.
“Will he ever win a Premier League title? As things look now, absolutely not. A lot of things have to change at Liverpool for that to happen,” he said.
“I don’t begrudge a good guy like Steven winning the Premier League, but maybe he needs to change clubs if he wants to have that title.”
The Swede, who is a big fan of Liverpool, was also not impressed with the Reds start to the season, and insisted that the owners need to spend lavishly if they are to compete with their rivals.
“The American owners have to give more money and buy the right players. They have a good coach in Brendan Rodgers but the players did anything but play well together.”
