Erin Maxwell, Paige Railey and Zach Railey make a strong run on Day 2 of 2011 Kieler Woche
American sailors, Erin Maxwell of 470 Women class, Paige Railey of Laser Radial Women class and Zach Railey of Finn class, have shown an impressive performance on the second day of 2011 Kieler Woche at Kiel in Germany, June 19.
Erin and Paige led their respective classes, while Zach was trailing the Frenchman, Jonathan Lobert, by two points in the Men's category.
Extreme windy conditions at Kiel made the competition more exciting an worth watching. The breeze blew from 10 to 15 knots earlier on the day but it shifted up to 19 knots quickly accompanied by heavy showers.
Erin Maxwell and Isabelle Kinsolving topped the 470 women class, finishing fourth in the race and now the duo is leading with 10 points, followed by Tina Lutz and Beucke Susann at 17 points.
Zach Railey’s younger sister, Paige Railey took two Laser Radial races of the second day and led the class again. World number three women sailor on the Laser circuit, Paige is now leading a 51-yacht fleet followed by Croatia’s Tina Mihelic with 14 points.
However, her brother Zach could not make it to the top and ended two points behind France’s Jonathan Lobert, who sailed terrifically under challenging conditions. Zach hopes to cover up the minimal difference he has on the third day.
