Erislandy Lara: I am ready and will punish Ronald Hearns just like Paul Williams – Boxing News
Erislandy Lara, the former WBA Fedelatin light middleweight champion, recently shared his views about Ronald Hearns, and said that he will punish the former number one contender of WBA super world middleweight gold in the same way as he obliterated Paul
Williams adding that he is feared by most in the division and is thankful to Ronald for accepting the bout.
Lara and Ronald are scheduled to meet in a 10-round bout which will take place at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino situated in Biloxi, Mississippi, United States. The duo will basically headline the pay-per-view jointly put forth by Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment
and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions.
The Friday night bout will be headlined by the epic clash between Jermain Taylor and Caleb Truax and will be televised live on Showtime on April 20, 2012. The duo recently met at the pre-bout press conference and shared their thoughts about the bout and
about each other.
Lara, 29, was quite aggressive during the press conference and vowed that he will fight Ronald in the same manner as he did with Paul adding that his impressive pugilism has feared many pugilists in the division who are now not willing to take him on.
It must be kept in mind that Lara lost the bout via majority decision by just an inch but his performance mesmerised even the critics who afterwards gave a standing ovation to the surging young Cuban lad.
Lara remarked, “I’m part of the A class of my division. A lot of guys don’t want to fight me so I have to thank Ronald Hearns for taking this fight. I’m going by the name of ‘The Punisher’ for this fight because people saw that I punished Paul Williams.
I’m ready to fight another great fight.”
Ronald, who possesses an upper hand over Lara as far as the experience is concerned, while sharing his thoughts said, “I’m grateful for my fight tomorrow. Thanks to my team, Lou DiBella and SHOWTIME. This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I can’t wait
for the world to see me perform. It’s time to get to work.”
Lara has been in a total 17 bouts and has lost just one to Paul Williams. Ronald, on the other hand, has been in a total 28 bouts and emerged victorious in 26. He has nailed a huge 20 opponents by knockout as compared to Lara’s 10.
The bout will definitely be a clash between the apex men of the division since both have a reputation of being the powerful pounders and do not rely on the back-foot defensive game.
