Erislandy Lara brutally punishes Ronald Hearns and knocks him out in the first round – Boxing news
Erislandy Lara, the Cuban proud, collected an impressive rather intimidating knockout win over more experienced Ronald Hearns, the former number one contender for WBA super world middleweight title, by blanking his senses out in just the first round of the
10-round bout held on April 20, 2012.
The above bout was televised live on Showtime channel and was on the undercard of the pay-per-view headlined by non-title 10-round bout between Jermain Taylor and Caleb Truax.
The event was promoted by the duo of Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and the ring was stretched at Beau Rivage Resort & Casino situated in Biloxi, Mississippi, United States.
Lara entered the ring with just one ambition in mind to punish Ronald severely and prove his critics that he was the better man in the bout against Paul Williams and he should have won that bout.
It must be kept in mind that Lara’s loss against Paul was considered a controversial one and it was a very close call. The whole bout witnessed Lara pound and batter Paul brutally even then he lost the battle via unanimous decision.
The southpaw Erislandy was in his career’s 18th bout and boasted 15 wins with 10 of them via knockout. Ronald, on the other hand, was in his career’s 29th bout and emerged victorious in 26 collecting 20 of those wins via knockout.
As far as the experience is concerned, the odds were definitely in favour of Ronald but nobody knew that Lara will end the bout in such a swift and authoritative way. With the ring of the first round bell Lara, who is also widely known as ‘The Punisher’,
unleashed a huge wave of jabs that rattled Ronald’s senses.
Ronald was so much shocked and battered that he lost his balance several time and fell on the ring floor thrice. The pummelling was so powerful that after the passage of just one minute and 34 seconds of just the first round, Keith Hughes, the bout-referee,
intervened and halted the bout.
Lara was unanimously amidst the standing ovation of the crowd denoted as the winner of the bout via technical knockout. With this win, Erislandy has not only proved that he is an iron-hearted man who is destined to become a champion but also skimmed off
the Paul-loss impact off his resume.
Ronald, on the contrary, was unable to even blink his eyes and collected his second consecutive and career’s third overall defeat. The 33-year-old ‘Chosen One’ has collected all his defeats via knockout.
Lara now has 16 wins with 11 via KO out of a total 18 bouts and Ronald has 26 wins and three losses out of a total 29 bouts.
