Erislandy Lara to collide with Freddy Hernandez in a non-title 10-round clash – Boxing News
Erislandy Lara, the former WBA Fedelatin light middleweight champion, will try to move bit closer to the WBC light middleweight title scenario by grabbing a win over heavily experienced Mexican proud, Freddy Hernandez, the former WBC Latino welterweight
champion, in a 10-round bout to be held on June 30, 2012.
The duo will take on each other on the undercard of the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. In the main event, Cornelius Bundrage will defend his IBF light middleweight title against Cory Spinks.
The night will be co-headlined by the non-title 10-round featherweight bout between Gary Russell Junior and Christopher Perez. The ring for the bout will be set up at Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, United States.
Lara, 29, will undergo yet another test of his career. The Cuban proud has in a very short career sealed his place in the top 10 divisional rankings of World Boxing Organisation.
With 16 wins in a total of 18 bouts, the southpaw has lost just one bout to a pretty well known name Paul Williams. After that bout, under strenuous pressure, Erislandy entered the ring against another talented pugilist Ronald Hearns.
This time, it was Lara who emerged victorious by knocking out ‘The Chosen One’. Erislandy recently shared his thoughts during a media workout and commented that he wants to replicate his last bout’s performance.
Lara further added that he is not frustrated at all regarding the fact the he is being avoided by many high profile names, adding that it is his pugilism and knockout ability that has placed fear in hearts of all those brawlers who avoid him.
It must be noted that Lara has collected 11 of his wins by knockout. Erislandy stated, “If I go out there and do what I did to Ronald Hearns (KO 1), no one is going to want to fight me. Freddy Hernandez is a very good fighter. I’m prepared for anything he’s
going to bring, but he needs to be worried about what I plan to bring. I’m not frustrated that fighters avoid me. I just have to keep working hard and taking care of the fighters my promoter puts in front of me. These guys can run but they can’t hide.”
Freddy, 33, also known as ‘The Rail’, is a Mexican veteran who has just returned on the win track by grabbing a unanimous decision win over Luis Collazo. With a huge 30 wins in a total of 33 bouts, the orthodox Freddy definitely poses a serious threat to
Lara.
