Ernesto Velazquez beats Tony Stephenson in an epic battle at European Club Championships
Spain’s talented male shuttler Ernesto Velazquez showed his impressive class as he played to his maximum potential and overpowered Ireland’s Tony Stephenson in an epic Men’s Singles competition at the European Club Championships 2012 in Hungary, on Wednesday,
May 30.
The in-form Spanish shuttler put up superb show in front of local crowd and emerged as the winner against his talented Irish opponent who failed to play positive badminton in the ending points and lost the fight.
Ernesto could not find a convincing start and lost the opening set but found his way back in to the match by accelerating his speed and grabbed the following games to win this rubber-set contest in just 36 minutes.
On the other hand, Tony took the first game by playing to his maximum speed but he failed to remain consistent in the court and lost the contest in three games with a decent margin on the board.
In the opening set of this interesting fight, both shuttlers played to their maximum speed and remained successful in progressing at the same speed until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Ernesto tried to control the pace but failed to dictate his rival who was also playing at his best.
The score was close at the ending points when the Spanish played wrong shots and lost the set with a 19-21 score on the board.
In the second game, Ernesto showed his class by playing on a completely different level and managed to take a stunning lead until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, the aggressive Spanish continued putting phenomenal show of attacking badminton and wrapped up the set with a one-sided margin of 21-11.
In the deciding game, Tony tried to find a good flow but failed to take charge of rallies as his rival was everywhere in the court. Until the break, the Irish remained behind his challenger on the board.
After the break, Ernesto remained positive without facing any trouble from his rival and took the final set with a superb margin of 21-14.
Ernesto won this fabulous battle in rubber games of 36 minutes with a striking 19-21 21-11 and 21-14 score on the board.
