Ernests Gulbis /Viktor Troicki defeated Paul Hanley/Andy Ram at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters Doubles
Ernests Gulbis of Latvia and Viktor Troicki of Serbia teamed up to blow away the pair of the Australian Paul Hanley and Andy Ram of Israel in the doubles category of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters at Monaco on Monday. The winning
duo needed just forty one minutes to devastate their opponents in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, to advance to the second round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) 1000 Masters event.
The contest appeared one-sided right from the beginning as Gulbis and Troicki were off to a flyer. Their dexterity was inspiring, so was the coordination among them. Gulbis and Troicki kept the rallies short and clouted a number
of cross-court winners to put early pressure on their rivals. They appeared totally unplayable and dropped just one game in the whole matchup.
Hanley and Ram proved a total mismatch for the winning duo and could pose no real resistance in the game. They appeared in no sorts of form and played lots of errant strokes to bestow easy points to Gulbis and Troicki. Hanley and
ram conceded three double faults in the game as well and secured just 23 out of 72 points being played in the contest, while the rest of 49 points were collected by their opponents.
Gulbis and Troicki were very proficient on winning crucial points in the game and they amazingly won 17 out of 17 first serve points while serving with 57 per cent accuracy. Hanley and Ram got not even closer to break the opponent’s
serve and dropped their own serve six times in the game. An overall brilliant performance from Gulbis and Troicki earned them an easy pass to the second round of the tournament.
Although the first serve percentage of Gulbis and Troicki was drastically low at 40, the two reeled off 100 per cent of points on it in the first set. They broke Hanley and Ram in the very first game of the opener to take early
advantage and raced off to 3-0. Hanley and Ram slumped further and failed to hold serve in any of the games in the opening set. Gulbis and Troicki stung three straight break points to rocket away to 6-0 in less than 20 minutes.
The following set was no different to the first one, with Gulbis and Troicki striking three serve breaks to eject Hanley and Ram out of the competition. They finished off the matchup at 6-1 and advance to meet the top seeded American
pair, the Bryan Brothers. Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan received a bye to the second round of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters.
