Ernests Gulbis whitewashes Daniel Kosakowski in straight sets – Farmers Classic 2011
Farmers Classic 2011 tuned up as young players washed away most of the experienced ones. Playing at the LA Tennis Centre, Ernests Gulbis of Latvia cleared his way to the quarter-finals beating local Daniel Kosakowski 6-2, 6-4.
The match was played on hard court.
Ernests Gulbis, who is just 22-years-old, has been superb in the Farmers Classic Cup. The Latvian out did Xavier Malisse in round 1. The world No.84 used his height as his advantage to beat the young Russian born American, Daniel
Kosakowski in straight sets. The former world No.21 played strong right hands to oust the young American.
The Russian born American, Daniel, standing at world No.482, could not get enough of the Latvian to manage a win. Although the American played brilliantly in his previous fixture against Tim Smyczek, the Latvian proved to be just
perfect.
The match started off with Kosakowski serving first for set 1. The scorecard did turn to 1-0 but in favour of the Latvian as he won the first breakpoint of the match. Serving for game 2 of the set, Gulbis slammed the 19-year-old
with another game to lead 2-0 in the set. However, the beating was yet not over. The 22-year-old repeated the spanking taking away the next two games to roll the score cards to 4-0. The match proceeded in favour of the Latvian as he won 2 out the next four
games bagging the set 6-2.
The second set was no different that the first as the dominator continued his domination and won the first game on Kosakwoski’s serve. The former world No.21 then extended his lead to 2-0 in the next game. Steadily, both players
won back-to-back on their respective serves leading the scores 5-4 with Gulbis serving for the match. The 22-year-old saved a crucial breakpoint and won the match 6-2, 6-4, throwing the American out of the Farmers Classic 2011.
Statistically, Gulbis scores 64 points in total that included 40 service and 24 return points. Saving 100 percent breakpoints, Ernests Gulbis aced the 19-year-old an incredible 8 times securing the match and making his place in
the quarter-finals.
As Ernests is the first person to qualify in the quarter-finals, his rival is yet to be determined from the match between James Blake of American and the mighty Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro.
