Ernie Els Getting Back in to Shape
Ernie Els, the former world number one golfer, has not been in sublime form this year. This year, he has played thirteen events and managed to make the cut in eleven of them.
Overall, he has an average performance so far.
In the last five events, he has one second-place finish at the Zurich Classic and one ninth-place finish at the US Open. In the rest, he has been finishing way below his standards.
Last year, also, Els struggled to find his touch. The current year has been comparatively better than the last one.
The South African thinks that he has regained his belief in himself, which, for some reason, was lost.
In the recently concluded US Open, he performed well and seemed to have found his old form again.
The three times major winner has shown excellent form at the US Open and for a short period of time, he shared the lead as well, before he faltered.
The 42-year-old South African revealed that his ninth-place finish at the US Open has given him a big boost in morale and confidence.
Els was just a little disappointed that he could not continue to lead. However, overall, he sees his performance satisfactory and a step in the right direction.
Ernie Els played with great mental attitude and strength on a very tough golf course.
At this time last year, Ernie Els was nowhere to be seen. When he looked back and compared the two years, he saw a major improvement in his game and felt happy for himself.
The Big Easy has now once again started playing easily. His swing is working smoothly for him and the results can be seen at the golf courses.
Ernie Els had a very honest assessment about his US Open performance. This is what he had to say,
“Right after finishing my final round at Olympic I was disappointed to have let slip a chance to win my third US Open, but having had a night to sleep on it I can reflect more clearly on the positive aspects of my performance”.
Else was extremely satisfied with his performance at the Olympic Course and further said, “The whole week at Olympic Club I was a lot calmer and I felt much more in control of my game and my emotions. That is a really good sign going forwards”.
A wide view is that Ernie Els is starting to get back into his old form, which made him one of the best golfers around the globe.
Securing the ninth position on such a tough golf course was surely a major achievement.
The most recent PGA victory of Ernie’s was in 2010, at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He had slipped to the 58th spot in the rankings.
In comparison to that, looking at this year, he has really come along nicely and is working hard to get back in shape.
After his ninth finish at the US Open, he climbed up in the ranking order and is now on the 39th position.
If he continues to play well, like he played at the Olympic Club, then slowly but surely, we will find The Big Easy contending for major titles more often.
The guy has the temperament and experience. He just needs some good outings on the golf course that will tune him up nicely.
