Ernie Els – a major contender on the PGA Tour as the 2013 season starts
The South African golfing pioneer, Ernie Els had one of the most successful careers in golf. Although the 43-year-old has failed to perform in the recent Professional Golf Association Tour seasons, he has had one of the most decorated careers.
The South African turned professional way back in 1989. He amassed 65 professional title wins during the course of his career.
The seasoned golfer has won sixteen titles on the Sunshine Tour, twenty seven titles on the European Tour and nineteen title wins on the PGA Tour.
The golfer, who now plays on the European Tour and the PGA Tour, has four major championship titles to his credit as well.
He added the fourth major championship title during the 2012 season, where he won The Open Championship.
In 1994, then a young player on the Tour, Els won the U.S. Open due to an excellent performance at the tournament. He won his second U.S Open title in 1997, where he showed the same level of play that he did three years ago.
It is said that Els and the great, Greg Norman have numerous similarities, one of them being that if one looks back at their careers, it can be said that things could have been different for them.
With a series of misfortunes and instances of faltering under pressure got the best of both the players or they would have better records than they have now.
Ernie else is one of the major South African forces on the Tour. He played at a time when Tiger Woods was dominating the circuit. Woods, with his outstanding form, was clinching every tournament he participated in.
Els has played a major role in promoting the sport in the country. With so many South African golfers on the rise these days, who are making a mark on the tour, it can largely be credited to Els’ efforts.
With experience and consistency on his side, he is someone to look forward to during the 2013 season, where he will be competing against numerous young golfers on the Tour.
