Ernie Els all set for the Canadian Open
Since the US Open, it has been a very busy schedule for Ernie Els. However, his love for golf never ends. Last week Ernie won the Open Championship.
To be honest, every player would take at least a week off and celebrate his victory but not in the case of Ernie Els. After securing his second Claret Jug, Ernie is all set to take the field in the Canadian Open.
This year’s Canadian Open is sponsored by RBC and after signing a multiyear sponsorship deal with RBC, Ernie’s participation is all but compulsory in the event.
Canadian Open is the third oldest golf tournament of the world and many greats have come here and won. This year’s Canadian Open is taking place at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
However, there is one problem for Ernie as he has not played on this golf course before. Ernie did manage to practice on some of the holes but at this level it is not enough.
"I do not know if it is such a big disadvantage because a lot of times when you do not play a course, you do not know where the trouble is," Els said. "So maybe that is a good thing. You get your yardage, you hit it to your spots".
Along with the South African, there are many other big names taking part, such as Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan, and Matt Kuchar.
Ernie’s confidence will be sky high after his victory at the Royal Lytham but two things will play to his disadvantage.
One, the fact that he has not played at this golf course before, and secondly, is he mentally and physically unfit to play this event. A victory at such a high profile event really drains out everything from the body and one needs proper rest to recover
from that.
Jim, however, was excited about the tournament. "If I like the golf course, I am going to play," Furyk said. "I do not care who is showing up or what the purse is".
Defending champion, Sean O’Hair will also be looking to defend his title. "It is just a good, solid, old-school golf course and we do not get to play places like this I do not think very much," O'Hair said. "It is fun to come to venues like this".
