Ernie Els bids to win CIMB Asia Pacific Classic
The winner of the PGA Grand Slam 2010 is eyeing the $1 million prize money in the inaugural carrying a purse of $6 million in Kuala Lumpur.
He is determined and he ready to perform at his best on the Mines Resort and Golf Club where the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic is taking place on the 28th of this month. Despite losing the form, the South African is confident that
the title will be his, owing to his accidental victory in Bermuda.
The Champion of the Champions is chasing his third victory on the Tour, despite the fact that he is out of form. Moreover, he is very excited for his second visit to Malaysia and believes that the victory at Bermuda has put him back on the track after a
long time.
Speaking about his sentiments he said, “After last week's win, I'm coming in here feeling good about my game. Like everybody in the field, we're excited to be here. We have a great sponsor (CIMB Group), who has signed up the tournament for six years. It
is a wonderful thing for the tournament. It gives it longevity and you can really build on it now".
Moreover, he was pleased with his new club that helped him to reach the greens with ease. "It felt great and I was definitely getting it out there a long way. I'm expecting to drive the ball very well again this week. And I've got some positive putting vibes
from last week's back-nine performance on the greens", said Els, who has amassed over 65 tournament victories around the world”.
The three-time Major winner is being accompanied by Adam Scott, Luke Donald and Rickie Fowler. Adam Scott, who is a two-time winner in China and Singapore, is seeking his debut title in Malaysia. After a long gap, the Aussie claimed a victory in Texas Open
this year along with three top-10 finishes in six starts.
Scott is looking forward to play in Malaysia. He said this in a press conference, which he attended in Kuala Lumpur. He added that he was enjoying as much as he was impressed by the course. Moreover, he was touched with the warmth and love that was showered
on him by the people of Malaysia.
On the other hand, the 21-year-old Fowler, who made his debut in the 2010 Ryder Cup, is also delighted to be in Malaysia. This is the very first time for the American to tee off in Malaysia after turning professional in 2009. Rickie Fowler was happy to make
the journey in his bid to win the US$1 million top prize.
Speaking to the press Rickie said that he felt his game was getting better. Thereby, he was excited to test his luck in an entirely different scenario. The player who secured eight top-10s this season further added that he loved to travel and explore different
parts of the World and this is what he was doing.
The field of 40 players includes Noh Seung-Yul, who is the current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, Thongchai Jaidee, Ryo Ishikawa and YE Yang. According to the media reports, despite the claims none of the Americans will be able to lead the field as all
odds are against them. They are new to the course and weather conditions, which might pose as a great threat for them.
Ernie Els is eying his third tour victory in Malaysia where the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic is taking place starting from 28th October, 2010. The event will be staged on Mines Resort and Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur. Despite having tons of confidence,
Ernie Els won’t be able to claim a victory here as he lacking the desired form, which is a prerequisite for a winner. If Els believes he can do it, then let him try his luck. After all what he did in Bermuda was a true case of luck and coincidence.
