Ernie Els commits to play at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open – Golf News
Ernie Els has confirmed his participation in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, where he will warm up for his title defence at the Open Championship.
The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open is set to be staged from July 11 to 14, at the Castle Stuart Golf Club, featuring some of the prominent names on the European Tour.
Darren Clarke, in the meantime, has already committed to make a start in the £3million event, which means that both the last two Open champions will be teeing up next week in Scotland.
Els is no doubt a strong addition to the tournament this season, because of his strong track record in the “Home of Golf”. In 2000, he secured his first victory in the tournament and added another Scottish Open title to his resume
in 2003, the same year when Clarke finished tied second.
In addition to that, he is enjoying a great form, as he recently won the BMW International Open, the event that saw the South African star leading all the four rounds throughout the week.
“Playing the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open is not only the perfect preparation for The Open, it’s also a tremendous tournament in its own right. Playing links golf in Scotland is such a fantastic experience, especially
on a beautiful course like Castle Stuart.”
“I have very fond memories of my two wins in the Scottish Open, and if I can win it a third time next week, it would be the perfect platform for my defence of The Open,” he added. “The Scottish galleries are very knowledgeable,
so if we can get some decent weather we should be in for another great week.”
He believes that his participation at Castle Stuart will provide him a great platform to warm up well before the start of the third major golf championship, an event that he desperately wants to win again.
If he succeeds in his plans, he will become the first player to win back-to-back Open titles, since Padraig Harrington did the same in 2008.
So, in order to watch Els, Clarke and some other big names at Stuart Clarke, tickets can be purchased for just £70, a £10 discount on gate price.
