Ernie Els's dramatic end at the BMW PGA Championship
Ernie Els shot a 5-under 283 at the BMW PGA Championship, finishing tied for the seventh position with two other professionals.
The 42-year-old South African was unable to score well at the European Tour event, held at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England.
Els was inconsistent in scoring right from the start of the tournament, as well as unable to score well after the first round.
He started the tournament on Thursday, shooting six birdies and two bogeys. He has managed to come close to the top-5 players, and received massive appreciation from his fans.
However, he did not maintain that position, as he scored a 1-under par in the second round on Friday. He shot four birdies and carded five bogeys throughout the day.
He somehow improved his scoring and scored three birdies and just one bogey in the third round. He finished the tournament at par and was unable to add any more under par scores on Sunday.
However, the third round scores of 70 were the lowest of the day. Els was also not happy about the course conditions on Saturday. He did not perform well in the third round and blamed the unfavorable conditions.
"I'm fed up with it ... It's not my bloody job doing it. It's their job. They have been around a long time, I'm really disappointed with it," Els said after a third round.
He added: "You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that out. So now we have another situation and the guys aren't going to be very happy. It is difficult enough as it is with conditions the way they are but the tour has really got to play the ball
now, and the greens staff. I have been asking both to play ball with me for a while now and I can't keep taking this, and at some point they have to start listening".
One of the sport's analysts, while talking about the tournament's outcome, said that anyone can lose patience after making such mediocre scores. However, he said that the player raised the right point of the course conditions, but his way of communication
was not according to the standards.
Later, Els apologised at the end of the tournament and regretted what he said. Now he is hoping to end his winning drought, by adding some more victories to his career.
