Ernie Els has reasons to smile at CordeValle
Ernie Els is back again playing at the Frys.com Open at CordeValle. The event brings back many good memories for the big South African.
Although Ernie has played only once at this tournament, that too last year, but playing here will always give Els a reason to smile.
A tie for the fourth place at the Frys.com Open last year gave Ernie some hope for better fortunes in the upcoming season. The South African was winless on the PGA Tour last season and needed a strong finish to boost his confidence.
"(That) was one of my better performances of 2011," Els stated on his official website. He was preparing for the opening round, on Thursday, when he added, "I'd had a pretty miserable season up to that point, but I came here and shot rounds of 69, 66, 67,
68”.
That performance last year really boosted up Ernie’s confidence.
"It was a strong week and I remember I actually felt a little disappointed that I hadn't won, so that was a big turnaround mentally. It was the start of a shift in momentum and suddenly I could see light at the end of the tunnel".
Ernie also likes the setting of the course, the mountains and, especially, the way the course is set up. This really gets the current Open Championship winner going.
So far, Ernie has had a successful year with a major trophy in his cabinet. However, it would be really nice to finish off with a victory here. He came close to winning last year but could not pull it off.
Other big name players taking part in this event include the likes of Bryce Molder, who is a defending champion and European Ryder Cupper, Nicolas Colsaerts.
The Belgian needs a strong finish at CordeValle, as he bids to secure the Tour card for the 2013 season. So far Nicolas has earned $652,886 in PGA Tour earnings. He needs to earn at least this much more to finish inside the top-125.
Recently the Belgian bomber has been full of praise for the US golf. He really likes the competition that is provided along with the quality of golf courses that are present.
