Ernie Els regains confidence after a strong finish at the US Open
The three-time major winner Ernie Els believes that he has regained his confidence after a strong finish at the US Open last week, as he tied for the ninth position at the Olympic Club on Sunday, June 17, 2012.
Els played amazingly well throughout the tournament, allowing him to briefly seize the second spot during the final round.
He had a four-over par tournament score, which was a great finish, considering the fact that the Olympic Club is one of the toughest golf courses around the world.
According to him, he is happy with his recent form, especially when he had a disappointing season last year. Moreover, he has regained his self-belief that can help him win another major title in his career.
He also told that he felt a little disappointed when he failed to register a win at the US Open. However, he later realized that he must focus on the positive aspects of his performance throughout the week.
"Right after finishing my final round at Olympic I was disappointed to have let slip a chance to win my third U.S. Open, but having had a night to sleep on it I can reflect more clearly on the positive aspects of my performance,” Els wrote on his official
website (www.ernieels.com), on Monday.
"My mental attitude was good all week and I played really well on what was a very tough golf course. I had a couple of train wrecks, on holes four and 16, and ultimately I guess they cost me the tournament," he added.
Els started of his campaign at the second major event of the year with a double and triple bogey each in the opening round that forced him to settle for a five-over par 75.
Yet, he did not lose hope and tried to give his best on the course and remained in contention till the end of the event.
Overall, he scored three eagles throughout the week and finished three strokes behind the winner, Webb Simpson.
He told that he feels really satisfied, especially after comparing his last year performances with the recent ones on both the PGA and European Tours.
