Ernie Els says missing is motivating
Prominent South African Ernie Els believes that even though he is missing on the Masters event of golf, his non-participation in the event will definitely act as a motivation for him.
It is the first time since his debut in 1994 when the protean golfer will be missing a major event in golf.
Since this time, he has been deprived of winning the US Open event and at present is positioned at no. 65 in the World Rankings.
It will be difficult for him to make his place at the Augusta National.
He stated, "Obviously the Masters is right around the corner. I've never really been in that position where I had to try and qualify for it because I've been fortunate enough to basically glide through and get in there".
He further said that it is a positive omen for him, since he was looking for an opportunity to increase his focus on other things apart from golf.
Along with this, Els has other priorities on his agenda that he needs to fulfil. According to him, once he is done with all of those, he will be in greater rhythm and momentum to tee it off in a better way.
He said, "I think I'm close to getting back to that and playing the way I can play and I think if I do that the rest will take care of itself".
It is also important to mention here that the professional golfer will be making his eighth appearance at the Northern Open this year.
He was able to secure a victory at the event back in 1999. Furthermore, since Els has himself been engaged in designing of golf courses, he was undoubtedly enthralled with the design and ambiance of the course in Riviera.
In the course of teeing off, Els will be accompanied with his old Spanish competitor Sergio Garcia.
Apart from the competitive edge that both players share, Els has repeatedly said that Garcia is one of his personal favourite golfers.
In addition to this, the line-up of the squad making way to Riviera Country Club will also be festooned with the presence of World No. 1 Luke Donald.
With the presence of all these golfers, the battle is definitely going to be a must watch.
