Ernie Els to stage “Els for Autism” golf challenge
Ernie Els will be hosting another episode of the mega charity event “Els for Autism Golf Challenge” scheduled from April to September 2012 in the United States of America.
The event is famous for fund raising for charity and has been one of the largest tournaments. There will be 30 matches featuring leading players.
Similarly, the final will be played on October 19 to 20, at the prestigious venue of The Gallery Club in Las Vegas.
When this mega charity event was organised for the first time in the past, there were 1,700 golfers and almost 9,000 donors who raised $1.8 million.
Els is the proud host of the tournament. The event is regarded as a sincere effort from the 42-year-old South African player. Els loves to raise money to support the overlooked sectors.
According to him, the first phase of the charity will use $30,000 out of the total pool of money. The amount is intended to be spent on education and research facility in South Florida.
This department is helping the children facing autism. The effort will help find a cure for the problem.
"I was struck when I got to the grand finale in Vegas last year," Els said. "Ninety percent of the people there that played in the challenge, those people's lives are affected by autism, and a lot of them brought their kids to the event".
He disclosed, “I met people, numerous families, where the families have three kids, and all three of them have autism at a level where they have to care for their kids. They can't even go to a school or anything”.
Els is keen to help and fight against this disease. Raising funds for this cause will help the affected ones and also benefit the researchers to find a cure.
"There were some really heart-wrenching moments there," Els said. "We learned. We give back to the autism community, and I think we feel like a big family when we get together there".
Els has shown that he is a soft-hearted character. This is why he has initiated such an effective programme to help the children fight the problem.
He achieved many titles in his career and now he is spending his precious time to help people eradicate autism.
