The 41-year-old South African ace golfer Ernie Els has successfully won his fifth South African Open golf title. Ernie Els performed brilliantly well in the event at the Durban Country golf club and outclassed all his rivals to clinch the title for the fifth
time.
In the event Ernie showed a better class and recorded a brilliant 66 under par final round and overtook his compatriot rival Retief Goosen with one shot. On the other hand, the game of Retief Goosen was also appreciated by many golf critics as he showed
an impressive game and gave Els a very strong challenge.
Goosen had won the event in the year 2005 and was considered as one of the top contenders for the title this time as well. Retief displayed his good playing form and smashed three continuous birdies in the final round of the event but all of his efforts
were gone in vain as his superb performance proved not too good to beat Ernie Els’s score over the point’s chart of the event.
The South African golfing veteran Ernie clinched the lead of the tournament from the middle stage of the event and retained it after that by performing tremendously well. At one stage of the tournament Ernie seemed a little out of touch but recovered pretty
strongly by carding two consecutive birdies on ninth and tenth hole. After carding the twelfth hole birdie Els firmly grasped the lead over the points table. After that the birdie on the twelfth hole almost declared him the winner of the event. The superb
performance of finishing the final round by recording under par 25 earned him the trophy of the prestigious event.
The victory in the South African Open golf event has earned Ernie Els a huge amount of $210,000 and the lucrative trophy has given him a new boost for the next year as well.
After winning the event the South African tennis giant talked to the media and expressed his thoughts excitedly. Ernie Els said that he is very happy with the way he has performed so far and is very delighted about the fact that he has won the South African
Open title for the fifth time.
The three-time major championship winner Els considers the recent victory as a dream coming true. While talking to the media he said that it was a fantastic decision to play in South Africa. He continued that the Durban Country Club is one of his favourite
golf courses and winning the South African Open tournament for the fifth time is no doubt an honour for him.
When Ernie was asked about the level of competition in the tournament, he said that Retief Goosen gave him a very strong challenge but it was his day as he was able to perform according to his plans. He added that this trophy has given him a new momentum
for the upcoming year as the strong challenge in this tournament has made him stronger. While talking about the tournament Ernie said that it was a great event as he has played under a lot of pressure and all the players in the event were some of the best
players of the world. Later he said that his experience of playing in the Durban Country Club has always been great and he looks forward to playing there again.
On the other hand, 28-year-old South African golfing veteran Louis Oosthuizen was also able to perform well and snatched the third position over the point’s chart of the tournament, whereas Louis Oosthuizen was followed by his compatriot Charl Schwartzel
for the fourth spot.
