Errani/Vinci oust Dulko/Suarez to reach quarters – Internazionali BNL D’Italia 2012
Third seeded Italians, Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, stomped over the Argentinean tandem, Gisela Dulko and Paola Suarez, in straight sets at the Internazionali BNL D’Italia 2012 on Thursday. They summed up a 6-3, 6-4 success against the Argentineans to
progress into the final eight at this red clay court event held in Rome, Italy.
The Italian junction got dumped Dulko and Suarez for the third straight time this circuit. They toppled the veterans at the Whirlpool Monterrey Open and the Sony Ericsson Open in straight sets in the semi-final rounds before battling at Foro Italico.
Errani and Vinci made a strong start at this WTA Premier Five event and earned the critical break in the opening game to take the initial edge. Despite losing their serve twice to trail at 1-3, they unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and went on a five-game
tear.
The in-form Italians lost their track towards the follow-up set and suffered the first blow in the opening game to go 0-1 down. However, they quickly counterattacked and tied the scores at 1-1. Errani and Vinci plucked their remaining serves with poise and
cashed in another break chance in the last game to seal the set with a 6-4 win.
Next in line for the Italians are the fifth seeded Russians, Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova. The Russian seeds stomped over the Czech-Spanish pair, Iveta Benesova and Anabel Medina Garrigues, in straight sets to set-up this battle. They brilliantly warded
off five out of seven breakpoints they came across and cashed in half of the 10 break chances to register a 7-5, 6-2 success.
The Italian veterans, Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone, will accompany Errani and Vinci in the last eight. The Italian duo, who made a title-round appearance in their last event in Barcelona, amazingly dusted away four out of five breakpoints they
came across and capitalised on four out of seven break chances to manipulate a 6-2, 6-4 score line in one hour and 16 minutes. They also clobbered a better first serve share of 73 per cent as compared to their rivals’ 60 per cent and amazingly clicked 27 out
of 37 points on it.
