Errani/Vinci overcome Vives/Sanchez to reach the doubles final – Roland Garros French Open 2012
World number 24, Sara Errani of Italy, is having a dream run at this year’s Roland Garros in both singles and doubles categories. She has already booked a berth in the semi-finals of the singles draw against the Aussie veteran,
Samantha Stosur but her feat in the doubles has been even phenomenal. Errani, along with her fellow compatriot, Roberta Vinci, has reached the final of the French Open doubles on Wednesday.
The fourth seeded Italian duo outplayed the Spanish tandem of Nuria Llagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to earn a title shot in the final of the Grand Slam event in Paris, France. The 12th
seed Spaniards were absolutely ecstatic throughout the tournament but couldn’t deliver their best in the semi-final clash to fall out of the coveted tournament in sheer dismay.
Errani and Vinci exhibited yet another display of amazing coordination and stringed up their individual efforts with great mastery to hunt down their crafty opponents in style. The Italian veterans are the hot favourite for winning
the Grand Slam doubles title and their impactful run up till now hints that they are well on course for glory in Paris.
The fourth seeds had a brilliant serve precision of 80 per cent in the matchup, winning 27 out of 48 first serve points en route to victory. Errani and Vinci crafted a total of 12 break opportunities in the contest but could convert
half of their chances to drive the Spaniards out of the tournament. On the other hand, Vives and Sanchez cashed in three of their six break points in the entire matchup to finish on the losing side in the end. They coughed six doubles faults on the most crucial
moments of play and it proved extremely taxing for them in the end.
The hot favourite Italians still have to wait to determine their rivals in the final of the Roland Garros. The fifth seed Czech combination of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka will take on the seventh seeded Russian duo of
Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova in the second semi-final clash on Thursday.
