Question:

Error 14 YahooMusic LAUNCHcast?

Here is the fun part. I get the Error 14 when I am logged in under one yahoo account and not a second account. The second account has no problem.

I have LAUNCcast Plus on the account that gets the error.

The yahoo account that does not have an error has the free version.

I have cleared my cache

Rebooted my computer

Updated WMP

Disabled all firewall programs and hardware

Logged out of one yahoo account and directly into the other

  1. Your $20 is safe.  Thanks for being generous. Query: What software is installed on your system from Intervideo, Nero, or Cyberlink?

Best guess, uninstall Nero.  Run a registry cleaner after the uninstall.  It's a hunch.  WMP uses direct show and the filters (codecs) have keys in the registry.  Nero uses filters and puts the keys in the registry.  The search in XP is stupid and uses the first filter it finds.   I am guessing that Nero and WMP are bumping heads.  You can see this type of problem under Windows Media Player when you attempt to play a DVD movie.  WMP does not come with a DVD codec and if you have 2 products installed that support DVD movies, WMP will sometimes play the movie with picture and no sound.  I'm not interested in the $20, but I am asking you do a little work on your behalf on a hunch.  I suspect Nero more than Intervideo because if memory serves me correctly, the first Yahoo Music player used Nero codecs and they have dropped them and gone for Microsoft WMP.  Otherwise I give up.  You can always call Yahoo technical support, but I gave up on them a long time ago.

To verify that your proxy settings are correct

    1.

In Windows Media Player, on the Tools menu, click Options.

    2.

In the Options dialog box, on the Network tab, in the Streaming proxy settings area, verify your settings. If you don't know what your proxy settings should be, select a protocol, click Configure, and then in the Configure Protocol dialog box, select either Autodetect proxy settings or Use proxy settings of the Web browser. (The latter setting is available for the HTTP protocol only.)

    3.

Repeat step 2 for each protocol that is displayed in the Streaming proxy settings area.

In some cases, this error can occur if the Player tries to receive the stream by using the User Datagram Protocol (UDP), but for some reason it can't. You may be able to fix the error by turning off this option in the Player.
