Error Er15:RS-232Err

I have had this machine for 3 years and it worked perfectly until yesterday when it gave this error. Er15:RS-232Err. The user manual gives no instructions as to how to fix it. I have tried isolating it from computer etc but it won't work beyond the initial paper setup
