I was overpayed in 2 pay-periods which I get paid every 2 weeks. My Human sources manager told all the employees were going to be informed about how we were going to pay back in a payment plan. Well as soon as they corporate office figured out what went wrong. My Supervsor in my Department and also to the other departments I had to sign a form stating that I had to pay in 5 payments 250.00 a check . I do want to pay but if I am the sole provider in my family what do I do knowing that I have a family to take care of and knowing that the company was going to make arrangements with myself and all the employees that it affected I felt that the company was threating us to pay. What should I do ?

  1. You pay it back.  It was an error.  It's not your money.  And if you don't agree to pay it back, you'll get fired and get sued.

    How hard is this?

  2. Your employer has a right to recover the wages that were overpaid. There are certain laws that require deductions from paychecks to be authorized in writing by you. Deducting overpayment of wages however is an exclusion from this law. Asking you to sign the agreement is to cover their ***, but ultimately they have the right to take it back. So you should be grateful they're letting you pay back over time vs. just taking it all at once. Don't spend the money next time you have a little something extra on your paycheck.
