Ervin Eleskovic, Gerard Granollers-Pujol make it to second qualifying round at Serbia Open
Ervin Eleskovic upsets Yen-Hsun Lu 6-0, 6-4
Swedish tennis player Ervin Eleskovic scored a surprise victory over Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei, defeating the player 6-0, 6-4 in the first round of the qualifying singles at the Serbia Open. The match lasted just over one hour
and five minutes.
Yen-Hsun Lu is currently ranked World Number 45, and was seeded first at the qualifying singles for the tournament. Eleskovic, on the other hand, lurks just outside the ATP Top 400 at World Number 411 and was expected to lose the
match in straight sets. However, he surprised spectators by taking an early lead in the first set to break Lu three times. He himself was not broken once in the first set. The player took the first set 6-0 with a bagel, and had enough of a lead to challenge
Yen-Hsun Lu in the second set despite the fact that the player tried his best in this set. Eleskovic scored six aces and broke Lu twice more to win the set 6-4, and to take 62 per cent of the points played in the match.
The match ended with Ervin Eleskovic defeating top seed Yen-Hsun Lu in straight sets 6-0, 6-4, to reach the second round of the qualifying singles. He will be facing Gerard Granollers-Pujol.
Gerard Granollers-Pujol defeats Nikola Milojevic 6-2, 6-4
Spanish tennis pro Gerard Granollers-Pujol scored an easy win over local Serbian player Nikola Milojevic, defeating his opponent in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the qualifying singles of the 2011 Serbia Open. The
match lasted just a little over one hour and twenty minutes.
The victory was an unremarkable one for Granollers-Pujol, who is currently ranked World Number 326. The 22-year-old pro broke Milojevic six times during the match, which consisted of nine service and return games. He also scored
two aces, and won 55 per cent of the total points played in this match.
The Spanish tennis pro will face Ervin Eleskovic in the next round of the tournament after defeating Nikola Milojevic 6-2, 6-4.
