Erynne Lee surges ahead at U.S. Women's Amateur
Erynne Lee is no stranger to the U.S. Women's Amateur. Perhaps her association with the event is the main reason of her present position in this year’s edition of the championship.
Lee is presently in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur and her journey to this stage has been the most interesting. She has once again proven that she is a great golfer and her skills are second to none.
The qualifying stage was very tough this year. Lee played an average game and managed to finish near the bottom of the list of the qualified players.
This was a bit disappointing for her as she was expecting a solid finish to the stroke play stage of the event.
Given this low finish, her first pairing in the stage of 64 was a surprise for everyone. She played the Australian amateur Minjee Lee in what turned into a difficult match for Erynne Lee. The match was very close and Erynne Lee managed to win with a narrow
score of 5 and 4.
This win restored her confidence and gave her the much needed boost to play in the next round. The next round was the round of 32 and Lee faced Elisabeth Bernabe of California. This proved to be an easy match and Lee won the event by a score of 3 and 2.
The next opponent was Austin Ernst, a respected amateur from South Carolina. This was another close call for Lee as Ernst gave her tough time at all the holes. In the end, however, Lee managed to defeat Ernst with a 2 and 1 score.
So far, Erynne Lee has managed to play and survive the opponents with narrow margins. The quarter finals are a very different matter. This round will pit Lee against a player who has been beating her competition with good scores.
Ariya Jutanugarn from Thailand has built up a reputation of fierce competition on the golf course. Her wins in the previous rounds attest great golfing skills and a determination to win. The match between these two players will keep everyone on the edge
of their seats.
