i am constantly amazing with the number of spelling mistakes that people do on this site. are education standards slipping or do people simply not care anymore? pleaze halp mee.

you are correct education standards have slipped to the point where some uni students can't spell correctly, read it in the paper

LOL. Yes well everybody makes mistakes. Especially if you are trying to type fast. However, spell check is a great friend.

People have simply become a bit lazy in society today. Everyone says it's a time factor. Perhaps it's the internet culture or especially the texting culture which has fed this. Either way, I strive to always be as grammatically correct as I can and spell as correctly as I can. I'm not always successful. The English language is complicated. It's also the most eloquent in my opinion, and the most versatile. I simply choose to write as properly as I can because I'd be embarrassed not to, and because I also understand that professionally I cannot succeed without it.

Better to be in practice doing it right all the time than to accidentally lapse when its necessary.

Yes I think education standards have slipped.

Bring back the basic three Rs, I say.  Also agree with 'legalchild', this texting thing has created a monster as far as correct english and spelling goes.

One excuse I have heard is that the English language is going downhill due to the abbreviated form of communication called 'texting.'  Although, my middle school aged daughter cannot spell for c**p, and she doesn't text.  Who knows, but it is very frustrating.

Make the most of it, I get the horrible feeling that standards of English are going to continue to become even worse :P
