Eshan Naqvi crushes Sagar Chopra to win Maharashtra State Senior Badminton Championships
India’s young and talented shuttler, Eshan Naqvi, made his mark on Sagar Chopra by crushing him in the Men’s Singles final of the Maharashtra State Senior Badminton Championships, in Maharashtra, India, on Sunday, July 24.
The 19-year-old Eshan was the defending champion in the event and remained successful in retaining the crown for the third time. He delivered a wonderful performance by playing top-class badminton in the final of the event and won the straight-set battle
without facing any strong resistance from Chopra.
While talking about his playing strategy in the final, Eshan said, "I have to adjust my game according to the pace of the new shuttles. I could not play my attacking game. But I am happy to retain my title."
He further added, "I was determined to win this prestigious title, even though I was not at my best in the initial round. I was a bit disturbed as I didn't find suitable conditions. But after the words of advice by Vad sir and Mayur Ghatnekar, I settled
down and could focus better as the tournament progressed."
Eshan was dominant in the whole match as he played with wonderful control. He quickly adjusted himself with the conditions of the court in the final match and got his momentum early in the set, as he clinched the opening game with a five-point difference
of 21-16.
The second game was interesting in the initial stages, as both shuttlers remained equal until the interval where the defending champion was in good control of the rallies. At the break, Eshan got a slight advantage by reaching at 11-8.
After the break, a spirited Eshan geared up his speed and dominated the game from all areas of the court. He was played flawless badminton in the second game of the final match against a shaky Chopra, who made many mistakes.
The net play of Eshan was surprising as he executed beautiful net strokes, which earned him a considerable advantage against his challenger who was leaning forward to return the perfectly executed net strokes.
Eshan finished-off the second game with wonderful ease by a 21-14 score on the board. The concluding result of this Men’s Singles title-match was 21-16 and 21-14.
