Eskil Suter reckons Colin Edwards invaluable asset for 1000cc CRT machine development – MotoGP news
The Swiss chassis designer, Eskil Suter believes that MotoGP veteran Colin Edwards has a valuable experience to develop a 1000cc machine.
The team will avail Edwards’ experience during the 2012 season to ensure fast progress.
The new contender, Forward Racing, in the premier class will be using Suter chassis with a BMW S1000RR power plant for the CRT 1000cc machine. The team will participate under Claiming Rule Team regulations.
While talking to Motorcyclenews.com, Suter said, “I think Colin is going to be a big help because he has the experience of being on the latest factory bikes and he understands how things need to be. This has definitely been a missing point for us so far.
Mika had some experience with the Ducati from the year before so we did a good job with him.”
Edwards first tested the BMW-Suter machine at the Jerez circuit in Spain. He returned to the track for the first time since his crash in Sepang that took the life of Italian MotoGP star Marco Simoncelli of San Carlo Honda Gresini team. Edwards suffered from
a dislocated shoulder and torn ligaments.
The Texas Tornado made a shift from Monster Yamaha Tech3 squad by the end of the 2011 MotoGP season to join the Forward Racing. The premier class veteran has raced on 990cc machines as well as the 800cc bikes.
He has spent a lot of time in his career to develop different kind of machines, as he started with Aprilia. Following his seasons in the MotoGP class, he rode Honda and then developed Yamaha for several years. Along Valentino Rossi, he spent crucial time
to develop the YZR-M1.
After experiencing helpless start in the season, he claimed that Suter/BMW machine has a great potential and can be improved well in the season.
Suter added, “At this stage though we don’t know what is the status of a factory Yamaha and this is for sure a big help for us and we can use his knowledge and put it on the road.”
The Swiss chassis expert is sure about the presence of the American rider that it will be a big help to the team for developing its CRT MotoGP project.
