The Catalan club registered an entertaining 3-3 draw against an in-form Athletic Bilbao to maintain their ambitions of a place in next year’s Champions League.
Los Periquitos travelled to San Mames looking for an elusive win against Bilbao, something they haven’t achieved for ten seasons. The visiting squad was gunning for the three points on offer and a place in La Liga top four place.
The match lived up to its expectations as the 5th and 6th placed Primera Division sides locked horns. Goals from both sides were on show as Espanyol came back into the game twice to earn a point in the six-goal
thriller.
Los Parquets showed that they are genuine contenders for a place in the UEFA Champions League as Levante are still recovering from a dip in form.
The clash against Athletic showed that Espanyol’s struggle for continental positions is not a mirage. With Levante on the slide, the Catalans are tied on points with fourth and have a shoe in over their Valencian rivals.

Espanyol have managed to get handsome results against teams with bigger pockets, and the Catalans are reaping the fruits of their shrewd market dealings.
They achieved a great result against Atletico Madrid, thrashing them 4-2 at Estadi Cornella El Prat. The Catalan club managed draws against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 (1-1) and Sevilla (0-0). Their tight schedule led the manager to field under-strength
teams in Copa del Rey, bowing out of the competition against the underdogs, Mirandes.
Europe has always been on the minds of the Espanyol fans, but it seems as if the possibility of achieving that goal is closer to reality this season. The squad has shown its ability to grind out results despite a mini injury crisis
brewing in the dressing room.
They currently occupy 5th place, level on points with Levante but behind due to a poorer head-to-head record. With 17 match-days yet to bear results, they have a milder fixture schedule ahead of them.
So far, Europe seems to be close and Espanyol look to be on the brink of completing a great season.
