Espionage related to diplomatic immunity?

are there any cases where esionage was made possible through diplomatic immunity? if so can you please give a specific example

  1. Russians and Americans are good in claiming diplomatic immunity in espionage operations particularly during the Cold War.

It is a generally understood practice that all countries staff their foreign missions (embassies, consulates, etc.) with an occassional intelligence officer who uses the official job as a cover for the true assignment (the nature of the intelligence could be military, commercial, industrial, political, etc).  The diplomatic immunity only comes into play when someone is caught violating the host country's laws (including engaging in espionage), and the result is that generally, the offending intelligence officer is judged to be persona non grata, and sent back home.
