  1. As the population ages, there will be less working age people. Since social security is taxed from wages the working population will have to support a burden of older people through higher taxes. Employers may also suffer. Employers will also need younger people to work jobs if they are still needed, thus people will immigrate or alternitavely employers will export the jobs. In general there will be less money for older people.

On the other hand the decreasing number of young dependants must also be taken into account, meaning that revenue previously spent and resources used here can be redistrubuted to eldercare elderly social protection. However, as some states have experience, it is difficult to redistribute resources such as those working in childcare moving to eldercare.

Nonetheless there will be consequences caused by an aging population. Especially in the context of a globalised economy where wages and costs are being pushed down. People may be made work longer, some far sighted goverments may make people take out private pensions, older people may be forced to live in relative poverty and in some cases abject poverty.

  2. Social Security was programed to benefit people who retired because the average living age was much less then.

with the rise in our hospitals and medical adanvaces people are living longer!

Social Security wasnt meant to benefit people for that long

so by the time our generation (or mine atleast, im 20) gets older and to retirment age there will be no social security left over.

We are paying in to social security and we are never going to get that money back unless something is done quick!

and once somone qualifies for social security they cant take it back so its not like they are going to take social security from an 80 yr old woman already on it to give it to a 60 yr old or something. that 60 yr old is just screwed and doesnt get any.
