Essence Hit Man rolled to his hat-trick in the Vigil Stakes at Woodbine
Audre Cappuccitti co-owned and trained in partnership with Gordon Cappuccitti, Essence Hit Man, capped off his 2011 season with a victory and started his 2012 campaign on a winning note, and now he completed his hat-trick in the Canadian Grade 3, $168,790
Vigil Stakes on 6 May, 2012, when he narrowly evaded the runner up to win it by three quarters of a length at Woodbine race course.
Bred in Ontario by A and G Cappuccitti, Essence Hit Man started off his 2012 season with a brilliant victory in the Jacques Cartier Stakes over the Woodbine’s synthetic surface.
Going at 6 furlongs on 7 April, 2012, Essence Hit Man made a fantastic run to cease the victory by a convincing margin of 2 ¾ of a length over Big Band Sound.
Champion Canadian Sprinter in the Vigil Stakes, was sent as the 4 to 5 favourite. He broke from post number 5 under jockey Jesse Campbell was vying for the lead straightaway, but he had to contend with, Signature Red, to get to the desired position.
It was a brief battle for the lead on the outside, but Essence Hit Man came good at the back stretch and led Signature Red and Bear Tough Tiger with swift early fractions of 22.56 lengths for the opening quarter mile and covered the half mile distance in
45.16 seconds.
He led the duo by 1 ½ lengths in the backstretch, and when he turned for the homestretch the son of Speightstown was clear by 2 lengths.
Big Band Sound made a late run entering the stretch, but Essence Hit Man was tough on the lane, and narrowly kept Big Band Sound at bay as they hit the wire.
"He was better loading, he was better in the gate and he was able to get off to a better start,” said Campbell, who has partnered the chestnut in his three-race win streak. “He’s a tired boy today. He knows where that wire is at. He ran hard.”
Out of El Prado mare El Prado Essence, Essence Hit Man finished second in the last year’s Vigil Stakes.
