Essendon Vs St Kilda Lat night Kit Clashing?

hey! Just about last nights round 5 game, congratulations to the saints on a great win. just want to say I'm a bombers supporter and I'm not bitter about the loss (not too much anyway :)) so well done sainters,

but my question is; did anyone else notice the "kit clashing"? as in

Essendon top; Black Red

shorts White

Socks Red Black

St K top Red Black White

shorts Black

socks Red black White

now even if you didn't se the game, and in ANY sport these colors are OBVIOUSLY clashing!!

then why on earth does the AFL, one of the largest and most respected sporting organizations in the country, let this happen?

it's even starnger when in the past it's ben ok.. eg

look at the teams last year! it's how it should be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jme9aV6A-eA&feature=related

and this years pre season they got it right http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_t-l7FJ8CA

heck even in 1989 you can distinguish the teams better than last night http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckSIS7sAY5M

  1. i know i was AT MY FRIENDS HOUSE IT IS AWFUL THAT THE AFL DOES THAT ITS JUST WRONG.

IF ESSENDON WORE THERE CLASH GUERNSEY IT WOULD'VE STILL BEEN A CLASH

BUT IS THE SAINTER WORE THEIR CLASH GUERNSY IT WOULD'VE BEEN FINE

C'MON AFL YOU MUST BE ABLE TO SEE THAT THE SAINTS WORE THEIR CLASH GUERNSY EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT MATCH LAST YEAR

  2. yes they clashed last night

    thank god collingwoods jumper

    does not clash with anyone

  3. yeah i think there was a problem there

  4. Wasn't this a Saints home game??

If thats the case, isnt it up to the vistors ( Essendon) to wear their alternate jumper to prevent clashes?

What is the exact AFL ruling on this ( or is there one?)

Unless the bombers were TOLD to wear their alternate jumper, i dont think they can be fined, but it should be looked into.

  5. The question will be asked of Essendon as to why they didn't wear their clash top. If they were supposed to (as they have been previously) then they may expect a fine.

If they were told they didn't have to the AFL will look into it and would expect they'll try to prevent it.

Not a major issue but something that needs to be looked at.

    EDIT: lively:

Why should St Kilda have changed? It was their home game. Essendon should of worn their predominately red clash top, or be made to wear an actual top that doesn't clash (ie like most of the other teams). Essendon should of worn their mostly red top with the red shorts. St Kilda should of worn their home jumper which is what they did.

  6. Yes.  Totally agree with you there.  I had a hard time working out who was who.  Mind you.  The bourbon might have had some influence...

  7. I am also an Essendon supporter, congratulations on the win Saints, you played better.

I agree that both teams should have worn a more distinctive strip.

The best idea would have been for St Kilda to wear their white-based outfit and white shorts, and Essendon to have worn their "home" strip, which is almost all black. This home and away basis for black and white shorts is meaningless anyway in this era of shared grounds, and white shorts with Essendon's guernsey look as if someone forgot to pack the black shorts. (Also the rear of any large man looks like a cow's udder in white shorts and I'd rather it was Gehrig than Lucas!)

Equally, when Essendon play Collingwood whether home or away, they should wear an all red outfit, including shorts, with black sash and sock stripes, and Collingwood wear their lighter suit, with the emphasis on white.

The managers seem to view any suggested change as at attack on the club, whereas it's really an advantage if your man with the ball can see quickly who's on his side!

  8. Wow you referenced your question with perfection.. Well done..

Yes it was tough to differentiate the teams.. I know it wont happen too regularly but surely cant be to tougher task for the AFL board to figure out..

Oh and yes great game saints and well done Bombers for the come back in the 3rd term..

  9. Why can't Essendon wear a reverse strip to what they have now, Red with a black sash, still their traditional colours and very much unlikely to clash with St Kilda and Melbourne, and to those saying St Kilda should have worn an alternative strip, hey home team has the right to wear the strip of their choice, It's about time Collingwood and Essendon got with the program and stopped being pigheaded.

  10. i did there is no way really around it theres all ways going to be kit clashing especially when there will be 18 teams

  11. Yes, I do believe this is kit-clashing. I reckon that the Saints should have worn their heritage guerneys.

Although it was a great game!!! - (especially since I'm a Saints fan!)

  12. Yes, they definitely did clash last night. Essendon should have worn their alternative predominately red jumper, although that wouldn't have been much better. Essendon and Collingwood need better clash jumpers instead of just a thicker band, change the colours or something!

  13. they did clash for sure it was hard to watch at times.

the AFL surely would have been aware and should have sent a memo to remind the clubs.

For mine its up to the away team to change
