Essential Brushes. What do I need? Will pick best answer.?

For those of you who are very good with make-up and preferably sephora shoppers. I am thinking about getting some new brushes. What are some essential, everyday brushes? (ex: concealer brush, bronzer brush, fan brush, etc.) And if you know any preferred brushes, could you give me the link or the brand to go with to buy the brush?

Thanks!

  1. i use the concealer brush every day. it can me used to dab lip gloss, apply eyesahdow (both packed and powder), and help with touch ups on foundation and concaler. just rinse it off in between

  2. Well here is what I classify as essential.

    1) A brush to apply foundation. Depending on what foundation you use, the brush will vary. For anything like liquids, I'd suggest a stippling brush because they are SO soft and are good for various things. You could use it for your foundation and your powder! It's also nice to give just a light coverage and even the skin out and not give you that nasty caked on look. My foundation brush: MAC's 182 buffer brush, and I used to use their stippling brush, which Sephora has one of as well and it looks/feel the exact same only like 15 bucks cheaper.

    2) Powder brush. For this, I'm thinking of switching to another stippling brush because then I could use it for other things if I needed and I like the flat top. Brands: MAC, Sephora, or QUO for any canadians!

    3) Eyebrow/eyeliner brush. Great tool for filling brows in and can be used to give a softer line on your eyes with eyeliner. Any brand would work, just depends on if you want something bigger, smaller, more dense, etc.

    4) Shadow brushes. I have 4 brushes for this. I have 2 all over shadow brushes and 2 definer brushes, and I am looking into getting a crease brush. All over ones work great to add highlighter as well. My brands are QUO.

    5) Concealer brush, which I no longer have since I stopped wearing concealer, but now i am starting to wear it again. Two brushes I'm dying to try are one by Stila and one by Urban Decay.

    6) Blush/Bronzer brush, again can be replaced with a stippling brush! It gives a sheer application, which can help because usually normal brushes apply too much blush. Brands: Anything over at Sephora!

that's about it. I don't use a fan brush because I don't high light my cheeks and I don't use bronzer. I think having a lot of eyeshadow brushes is a must if you are an everyday eyeshadow wearer and if you experiment with many looks.

  3. here is my version of essential brush... basically the same with the others though...

i really love collecting eye makeup brushes so yea..

    - foundation brushes (this is not necessarily essential if you use liquid or mousse... i just use my finger)

    - concealer brushes (this is also not necessary since i'm always using my finger)

    - not using bronzer so yeah...

    - blusher brush (you really need this one)

    - powder brush (i'm using pressed powder so i don't need this because it comes with a sponge/fluff or whatever it is)

for eye makeup you need :

    - eyeshadow brush (a flat dome brush one) to apply color to your lid

    - crease / contour brush (a dome and fluffy one) to define your outer-V or just your crease

    - blending brush (rather similar to eyeshadow brush but not that thick or full) to blend your color or to apply color to your brow bone

    - angled brush for a multi-purpose function... you can use this as eyeshadow brush, crease brush or even for your brow-bone....

    - flat eyeliner brush to apply eyeliner in the form of eyeshadow or powder

you can find cheaper version of MAC brushes from target and your local drugstores.. like sonia kashuk and such... i have never used MAC brushes because i'm on a budget.. instead, im using manicare, beauty essentials, BYS, (http://www.bys.com.au/Fashion-Accessorie... , e.l.f. (http://www.eyeslipsface.com.au/shop/inde... or coastal scents (http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/...

but for A REALLY BASIC BASIC BRUSHES.. if you don't want to invest on too many brushes... then...

    1. foundation / concealer (you can just use one brush for both foundation and concealer - but again, if you can use your finger, why not??)

    2. blusher brush

    3. powder brush (if you have loose powder)

    4. angled eyeshadow brush (which you can use for applying color to your lid, crease and brow bone or even to blend color - very essential)

    hope this helps...
