Essex 2nd XI rout Kent 2nd XI by 234 runs: Second Eleven Trophy
Essex 2nd XI crushed the Kent 2nd XI side by 234 runs in a match of the Second Eleven Trophy, at The King’s School http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Friday, July 15, 2011.
Kent 2nd XI needed 393 runs for victory, but were bowled out cheaply for 158 runs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christopher-Williams-c51030 was the only player in the team to score a half-century in the match. He collected 70 runs in the first outing.
On the other hand, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jaik-Mickleburgh-c1627, who scored centuries in both his outings. He scored 146 runs in the first and 113 in the second innings.
Toss was won by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 2nd XI team’s captain Chris Piesley, who decided to field first. His decision proved to be a wrong one, as the opposition managed 316 for the loss of nine wickets (declared) in the first innings.
The start to the innings was impressive for the Essex 2nd XI, as openers Mickleburgh and Nick Browne put together 99 runs for the first wicket partnership. The latter was unable to carry onto the start he got to his innings and was dismissed after
collecting 39 runs.
However, Mickleburgh made most of the good batting conditions, scoring a magnificent century for his team. He ended up with 146 runs with the help of 15 boundaries.
There wasn’t any significant performance from the team’s middle and lower-order and the innings was declared at 316/9.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Hindmarch-c2166 was the pick of the bowlers for the Kent 2nd XI side, taking three wickets in the innings.
In reply, the Kent 2nd XI team had a miserable start, losing eight wickets for just 76 runs on the board. They were likely to be bowled out within 100 runs, but a valiant effort from Williams guided the team’s total to 179. He was the last man
to be dismissed in the innings after scoring 70 runs with the help of 10 fours.
Max Osborne and Chris Wright did a fabulous job for the Essex 2nd XI, picking up four wickets apiece in the innings.
Mickleburgh was yet again dominant in the second innings and collected 113 runs, hammering 11 fours. He declared the innings at 255 for the loss of four wickets, gaining an overall lead of 392 runs.
The Kent 2nd XI’s bowlers failed to make an impression, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Williams-c98034 took two wickets for his side.
Requiring 393 runs for victory, the Kent 2nd XI team needed a solid start to their innings. The batsmen failed to impress though and the entire team was dismissed for 158.
The highest scorer for the team was opening batsman Alex Williams, who managed 37 runs. He was the only player to reach thirties and the rest of the players were below par.
Wright bowled well throughout the match for the Essex 2nd XI, as he picked up three wickets in the second innings, increasing his tally to seven in the match.
