Essex crush Surrey by 178 runs in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 Bank 40 – Cricket News
In the Group B match of the ongoing Yorkshire Bank 40, Essex pulverised their opponents Surrey by 178 runs, as they successfully defended a target of 313 runs at County Ground, Chelmsford.
While Essex batsmen found the pitch quite easy to bat on, the situation was completely different when Surrey came out, as their batsmen looked uncomfortable and were completely outplayed by their opposition.
After winning the toss, Surrey chose to field first, wanting to halt their opposition on a small total.
However, their plans went awry, as Essex openers Tom Westley and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jon-Lewis-c1726, who
nabbed the wicket of Rutherford for 18.
Westley was the next man to find his way back to the pavilion, dismissed by Stuart Meaker after crafting a knock of 34 runs off 31 deliveries.
The third-wicket partnership between Mark Pettini and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373 was productive, as the two batsmen steadily took their side towards 131 runs, before the former was removed by Gary Keedy after hammering an astounding
knock of 43 runs.
Bopara was then joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134 and the batting side continued the onslaught before Bopara became the next batsman to walk off the field after scoring 54 runs, leaving his side on 186.
Shah and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RN-ten-Doeschate-c2338 helped take the score to 226 before this partnership also met its end on the wicket of Ryan ten Doeschate, who faltered with 12 runs to his name.
Shah’s 68 and James Foster’s 39 helped Essex pile a mammoth score of 312 on the board.
With such an intimidating target ahead of them, Surrey needed to make a big start, however, openers Steven Davies and Jason Roy could post only 11 runs together before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 drew first blood by taking the wicket
of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c44611, who had his stumps obliterated with only two runs to his name.
The second-wicket partnership between Davies and Vikram Solanki led the side towards 32 before the former was removed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Masters-c1333 after scoring 14 off 16.
Former Australian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Napier-c1505.
With 51 runs on the scorecard, Solanki also lost his wicket after scoring 22 runs. However, the partnership between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Mahmood-c1116 was challenging, as the two batsmen led the side towards 113,
before Mahmood finally lost his wicket after scoring 36 runs.
Napier then unleashed h**l upon the remaining batsmen as he wiped out Surrey’s batting line-up without allowing the batsmen to score in double figures. Consequently he ended with seven wickets in the bag as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851
faltered on 134 in 29.5 overs.
