Essex’s batsmen, Adam Wheater, and skipper, James Foster, saved their team from defeat in a match of the County Championship Division Two against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. The scores in the match were: Middlesex 385 and 211/6
(declared) whereas Essex 291 and 196/7 (match ended).
Middlesex posted a decent first innings total after winning the toss and electing to bat first. The team’s opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sam-Robson-c2421, was the star of the show, as he scored 146 from 317 balls with the help of 15 boundaries. He showed good temperament under pressure,
as wickets fell early from the other end, but didn’t panic at all.
Apart from Robson’s ton, there were some decent knocks from the lower-order players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Simpson-c1722, who ended up scoring half-centuries for their team.
Bowlers didn’t have an ideal time, as the conditions were friendly for the batsmen. However, all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Napier-c1505, was in instrumental touch, claiming a five-wicket haul for the hosts.
Essex struggled in their first outing, as they kept on losing wickets on regular intervals. However, star batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134, played with responsibility, scoring 96 runs for his team. He deserved a century, but failed to reach it by just four runs.
The home team’s skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Murtagh-c2673, who claimed five wickets in the innings.
Middlesex’s batsmen played aggressive cricket in their second outing. Opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Rogers-c1249, took the charge to the oppositions and ended up with 63 runs from just 60 deliveries. He laid a good platform for the lower-order to build on the 94-run
first innings lead.
The visitors’ skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Dexter-c2091, carried onto the good work started by his team’s opener. He top scored the innings with 73 runs off 86 balls and remained unbeaten before finally declaring the innings. Middlesex gained an overall lead of 305 runs and
had plenty of time in the match to bowl the opposition out.
Essex had a nightmare start to their second innings, as they lost four wickets for just 28 runs on the board, including the top scorer from the first innings, Shah, who failed to trouble the scorers this time around.
There was some resistance from Matt http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Walker-c95903, who got out after getting a start to his innings. His wicket fell at a total of 80 runs, but things were then controlled by the home team’s skipper and middle-order batsman, Wheater. The pair put together 95 runs
for the sixth wicket, before Wheater was dismissed for 76 runs.
Foster remained unbeaten on 44, helping his team to draw the match. Murtagh was yet again impressive with the ball, taking three wickets. He failed to win the match for his team though.
