Essex sign Lonwabo Tsotsobe as overseas player
English county, Essex have signed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 left-arm seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe as overseas player for the first part of the 2011 county season.
The Eagles have long been looking for an import and the hunt reached an end hours before the side started its opening County Championship fixture against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 when Tostsobe agreed to join the team.
However the Proteas medium pacer will not be able to join the side in its opening game on Friday but is likely to be ready to make his debut with the club when the Eagles take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 next week.
The 27-year-old prolific wicket taker from South Africa said he was excited to be joining the county and hoped he would prove him a significant addition to the side.
"I am thrilled to be joining up with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783 and hope I can make a significant contribution for the county with the ball," said Tsotsobe. "As this is my first experience of county cricket, I obviously can't wait to get started and I
look forward to playing a part in regaining our Division 1 status," he added .
The left-arm seamer has been a promising wicket-taker in Proteas one-day side reaching his career-best ranking of number six for his performance in the recently concluded World Cup despite missing out on selection in the latter stages
of the mega event to make way for an additional spinner on the turning tracks of subcontinent.
Paul Grayson, the head coach of Essex County Cricket Club, said that the county is delighted for having the seamer in and hoped his variation in bowling would make an impact.
"Obviously we are delighted to get him in. He has come highly recommended by people we know, as a left-armer he offers variation and we hope he will make a big impact for the start of the season."
Tostsobe has been signed on as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 all-rounder Scott Styris will join the Eagles as their overseas player during Friends Provident T20 tournament.
