Essex rout http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Friday, July 29, 2011.
Leicestershire had to chase down 315 runs for victory, but the team had a miserable time with the bat in their second innings. They were all-out for just 34 runs with just one batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joshua-Cobb-c1739 reaching double figures.
Earlier, the visitors’ captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Taylor-c66127 had elected to field first after winning the toss. He predicted batting to be difficult, as the pitch had some dampness and the decision proved to be a very good one.
Essex were bundled up for 144 runs in their first innings. There was no player in the team to score even in the forties. The top score of the innings came from the team’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RS-Bopara-c2373, who managed 37 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Billy-Godleman-c1164 and Tom Westley opened the innings for the hosts. They struggled to cope up with the conditions and got out after getting starts. The latter was the first man to be dismissed after adding 16 runs to the total.
Godleman limped to 18 runs off 54 balls before getting out. He was followed by England’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/OA-Shah-c2134, who looked solid in his short outing. The veteran batsman collected 24 runs with the help of four boundaries, but failed to capitalise on the start he got.
The next man to be dismissed in the innings was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jaik-Mickleburgh-c1627, who managed just four runs in his struggling outing. He was unable to time the ball and faced 31 balls for his lone boundary.
Just one run later, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RN-ten-Doeschate-c2338 was sent back to the pavilion after failing to open his account. This saw half of the Essex’s team back in the hut for 91 runs.
Things did not get better for the hosts, as wickets kept on falling at regular intervals. Wicketkeeper batsman Adam Wheater got out after adding just one run to the total, leaving the team at 92/6.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Masters-c1333 offered some resistance, but failed to last longer. He got out after contributing 11 runs to the total.
Bopara was under immense pressure, as wickets were tumbling at the other end. He was unable to make a big impression and got out after scoring 37 runs off 115 balls with the help of three boundaries.
A quick 21-run knock from Tom Craddock guided Essex to 144 in the end. The lower-order player struck three fours and one six in his cameo innings.
Claude Henderson took four wickets for Leicestershire in the innings. He got good support from Wayne White and Nathan Buck, who captured a couple of wickets each.
