http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 181/6 (19.5/20 ov) - Sussex won by 4 wickets (with 1 ball remaining)
In Thursday’s Friends Life T20 match, Sussex stamped their first spot in the South Group, by gaining 10 points in the points table, after beating Essex by four wickets, successfully chasing down a total of 178 runs, needed to win the match, played at County Ground, Chelmsford.
Having being hammered for a huge tally of 177 runs, Sussex had their work cut out for them as they required a staggering batting performance to overcome the required target.
Before the start of their run chase, things seemed in favour of Essex, who needed to grab wickets with a steady flow in order to leave the batting side in ruins.
However, Sussex openers, CD Nash and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LJ-Wright-c1841 pulled off an astounding partnership, as they shredded Essex’s bowling attack, slapping the bowlers all around the park without a hint of remorse.
After piling up 77 runs, Sussex lost their first wicket when Nash was caught by Franklin after bolstering an innings of 31 runs.
Then with 88 runs on the board, the side lost their second wicket, when LJ Wright perished after smashing an innings of 46 runs off 26 deliveries. The fiery innings played by the batsman made a remarkable difference in the game as Sussex were now in a position to chase down the required target, keeping wickets in hand.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984 and MW Goodwin were then up next, and the two refused to bow down in front of the bowlers as they kept the scoreboard ticking by grabbing runs whenever an opportunity came their way.
The two took the score to 118 runs, after which Prior lost his wicket on a tally of 35 runs. MW Goodwin was then joined by JS Gatting as the duo steered the side to a total of 152 runs, after which the daunting partnership came to its end on the wicket of Goodwin, who hit the showers after belting a knock of 19 runs.
Gatting, however, jabbed a knock of 22 runs and fell at a time when his side had clobbered 165 runs, however by this time it was too late to stop Sussex from winning the match as the side reached the target in 19.5 over, for the loss of six wickets.
