In Thursday’s Friends Life T20 match, Sussex stamped their first spot in the South Group, by gaining 10 points in the points table, after beating Essex by four wickets, successfully chasing down a total of 178 runs, needed to win the match, played at County Ground, Chelmsford.
Having being hammered for a huge tally of 177 runs, Sussex had their work cut out for them as they required a staggering batting performance to overcome the required target.
Before the start of their run chase, things seemed in favour of Essex, who needed to grab wickets with a steady flow in order to leave the batting side in ruins.
However, Sussex openers, CD Nash and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LJ-Wright-c1841 pulled off an astounding partnership, as they shredded Essex’s bowling attack, slapping the bowlers all around the park without a hint of remorse.
After piling up 77 runs, Sussex lost their first wicket when Nash was caught by Franklin after bolstering an innings of 31 runs.
Then with 88 runs on the board, the side lost their second wicket, when LJ Wright perished after smashing an innings of 46 runs off 26 deliveries. The fiery innings played by the batsman made a remarkable difference in the game as Sussex were now in a position to chase down the required target, keeping wickets in hand.
