Essex vs Leicestershire – Clydesdale Bank 40 Group A – Match Update

Rain forced the game to a maximum of 25 overs per side, with Leicestershire resuming play after being inserted in. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Thornely-c1967 was their main run-getter but his failure to found support from his teammates eventually saw his side post a reasonable 151
on the board.

http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RN-ten-Doeschate-c2338, while Thornely’s impressive 55-run effort, which included 4 fours and a six, was cut short by Tom Westley.
The death overs were then duly controlled by the home side, with only http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 to post a defendable total on the board.
The bowling from Essex was disciplined; with the pick being Harbhajan who bagged 3 for 29 from his five overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Napier-c1505 bagged two, while Westley and ten Doeschate took one each.
The reply from the hosts was impressive as all batters managed to reach at least 20. Openers Mark Pettini and Westley laid a perfect platform, adding 62 before the latter fell lbw to Wayne White. One run later, Pettini also followed suit to the same bowler,
caught by Robbie Joseph at short extra cover.

including a six off Nathan Buck.
The victory was then sealed by ten Doeschate who smashed three consecutive boundaries to remain unbeaten on 23 off 14, alongside Shah.
The victory however, did not affect Essex’s standing in Group A, where they occupy 5th place. Their opponents remain rock bottom.
