Essien scores double as Cheslea manage to get past West Ham
Chelsea continued their hundred percent record in the Premier League this season as they went on to record a three goal to one win, over West Ham at Upton Park.
Michael Essien was present for Chelsea as the player managed to score a brace as he scored a goal on both sides of the pitch. However it was also down to Salmon Kalou scoring a freak of a goal in the sventeenth minute that helped Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea out class Avram Grant's West Ham on the night.
Chelsea looked to be taking the game to West Ham from the opening few minutes of the game, as Chelsea seemed to be full on confidence and a spirit to perform. Where as West Ham were performing the complete opposite way.
Chelsea's performance was near perfect apart from the one error the team made, which saw Scott Parer lob one of the best goals scored so far this season, over an out of position Petr Cech,
The mood and flow of the game was decided as early as the second minute, as Didier Drogba whipped in a brilliant corner which Essien met with his head.
In the seventeenth minute it was Drogba's set piece once again that led to Chelsea's goal. Drogba strick a venomous shot towards Robert Green who had no choice but to parry it as far as the feet of Matthew Upson. Upson looked like he was going to clear the ball, however a simple routine clearnce ended in a goal for Chelsea and the defenders strike came back off the on rushing Kalou and landed into the back of the net.
It was goal that could be described as comedic at its best. Neither the defender the keeper or the striker knew that, the ball would end up in the back of the net, but it somehow did. This goal is sure to be featured on almost every blooper video that will be made from here on.
Essien managed to seal the crucial third goal late on in the second half just when West Ham started to look threatening. The midfielder met a perfectly timed cross by Paulo Ferreira and nodded past Green with ease.
Parkers brilliantly timed lob goal over Cech was the closest the home team came to getting anything from the game.
West Ham could have surged a very late comeback like the one Everton pulled off against Manchester United early on. However any hopes of the team doing so were shattered by Fredrique Piquionne's poor heading ability. The forward managed to hit the bar with a header from nearly two yards out, with no keeper in sight. As the ball bounced off the post so did West Ham's chances of getting back into the game.
The match ended with Chelsea on top of the Premier League table, with two points in hand as there nearest rivals were now Arsenal who had also managed to beat a ten man Bolton to leap frog into the second spot in the Premier Leagues chart.
