The midfielder, who came to Chelsea in the 2005/2006 season, has got three more years left on his contract with Chelsea, but he has been marred by injuries for the last two seasons. The player from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 has only played 11 matches for Chelsea this season.
He came to the London side from the French club Lyon for 24.4 million pounds which was then a club record. So far, he has scored 25 goals in 226 appearances for the Blues.
The Blues veteran playmaker, who is known for his aggressive midfield play and for taking on long range shots from outside the box, has been going through a difficult time at Stamford Bridge of late, with injuries sidelining him for most of the season.
He ruptured his ligament while training in July 2011 and was sidelined for six months following his surgery. He was later hampered by a serious knee injury which further delayed his return to the side.
With uncertainty surrounding the player’s future at the club, talks of his move have surfaced indicating a possible transfer to the Serie A side Juventus.
According to some sources, the Italian side is planning on making a move for the injury plagued Essien and Arsenal’s midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-Song-c4804 in the summer. The club is likely to spend 18 million pounds on Essien, while keeping Song on their radar.
"We need to back our plans for a strong European campaign and Essien and Song are under review”. Said a club source.
However, the player’s agent Fabien Piveteau has turned down such reports and stated that the decision of the player’s future in the club will be taken after the coming of the new manager.
“Right now there is nothing and I have not heard from any Italian club.” said Piveteau.
His agent attributed his frustration and a difficult time in Chelsea lately to his injury woes which has kept him out of action.
“He is going through a difficult time but only because he has come back from a serious injury. He has three years left on his contract but it depends on who will coach Chelsea in the summer."
Chelsea’s former assistant coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo, has taken over the club as their interim coach. Andre Villas Boas was sacked by the club’s owner Roman Abramovich following a run of poor results which saw his side slum to the 5th position in the English
league. Di Matteo will serve the manager’s duties until the end of the current season.
