Establish a breathing rhythm?

how do i establish a breathing rhythm when running or swimming? i enjoy both of these activities, however, i cannot seem to get enough air into my body? is this normal?

  1. well its normal but to get a steady rhythm you just start trying to get a steady pace in breathing and try to make deep breaths. once you start you just keep doing so and though you may feel out of breath you continue to take deep breaths and will be fine.
