Esteban German added to playoff roster, Mitch Moreland brings in post-season hitting streak
The Texas Rangers announced on Thursday, September 29 that Esteban German will be in the play-off roster this year. The infielder will replace an injury prone Andres Blanco in the squad.
The news came out of Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The venue will pay homage to the American League Division Series between the Rangers and the Wild-Card Berth club, Tampa Bay Rays.
On the other hand, Mitch Moreland will be bringing forth a hitting streak from last year’s post-season and World Series. Blanco has been spared involvement in the competition as he is carrying a stress fracture in his lower back. The substitute short-stop
was to provide cover to Elvis Andrus but designated hitter, Michael Young, can fill on that role if the need comes. German however provides pace in the line-up.
"It's great to be a part of this," German said. "I will do what I can do to help this team."
Rangers will most likely require a little assistance from German as the first team squad is looking good on form and hits.
"If they don't need me, that's fine," German said.
Moreland on the other hand will be bringing in his seven-game post-season hitting streak. The star was .348 in 15 games last season. He had a home-run and seven RBIs last season. His World Series hits of 6-for-13 provided a remarkable average for the club.
"I just told myself it's the same game," Moreland said. "There's more people and more exposure, but you just treat it as the same way. When you get on the field, you play it the same way for nine innings."
The player has gone after right hand pitchers in the post-season but his recent form against the same batch of hurlers is 1-for-17. When manager Ron Washington was asked about the player’s role against the right hand hurlers, he did not assure the reporters
that Moreland would be given a chance against them in the series.
The Rangers will be looking to get a good start in their series against the Tampa Bay Rays. It will be interesting to see how German and Moreland are rotated into the line-up to get a competitive edge.
