Esteban Gutierrez insists he is focussing on his own performance in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver, Esteban Gutierrez has insisted that he is focussing on his own performance in the 2013 Formula 1 season and is not aiming to compete with his compatriot, Sergio Perez of McLaren.
Gutierrez has joined the Hinwil based team in this season as a rookie and is looking forward to perform well with his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg.
The Mexican driver has asserted that he not joined the sport to compete with only one driver in the field and is targeting to prepare for the competition with all the 21 drivers.
In addition, he said that he has great respect for Perez and all the other drivers. He also said that he expects a very tough competition in this season and is looking forward to deliver his best for his team.
“That's what a lot of many people may be saying around, but my focus is not that,” he said. “My focus is to work on myself, to focus on the most important things and not to waste time only by beating one of the drivers.”
“We all know that we are 22 drivers in Formula 1 and we don't need to waste the time only by competing [against] two of us. The fact that we are both Mexicans, it's a characteristic, we have to respect each other the same as we have to respect the other
drivers. It's competitive,” he added.
The Swiss squad performed impressively well in 2012 with their drivers, Perez and Kamui Kobayashi. They emerged as the strongest mid-field contender in the preceding year and managed to secure competitive results in many grands prix. However, they could
not score points with consistency during the last few grands prix.
Nevertheless, the team principal of Sauber, Monisha Kaltenborn has said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in this season. Additionally, she said that they are expecting Hulkenberg to score points with consistency in this year’s championship.
Meanwhile, the German driver is confidently aiming to deliver his best in this season. Let’s see how they show up in the remaining pre-season tests.
