Esteban Gutierrez says he has learnt a lot from his mistakes in GP2 – Formula 1 news
Esteban Gutierrez, who has secured a race seat at Sauber for 2013, has said that he has learnt a lot from his mistakes in GP2 and is looking forward to perform with consistency in Formula 1.
Gutierrez scored two race victories in GP2 in this season, but made few mistakes due to which he could only secure third place finish in the championship and stood behind his main rival, Luiz Razia and the champion, Davide Valsecchi.
However, he has said that he is well aware of the fact that the competition is very tough in F1 and there is no room for errors. Moreover, he expressed that his aim is to perform with consistency for the Swiss team.
“I am totally aware that competition in Formula One is not easy,” he said, “of course, it is the top level of motorsport. In GP2 it's true that I didn't reach a consistency, but I rate it as the most rewarding season of my career because to have this kind
of experience gives you a different perspective for what you input into the future.”
Besides, he said that he is targeting to improve his driving skills in the coming year so as to emerge as a competent driver in the sport. He also said that after achieving consistency, he will go to attain more and more competitive results for his team.
“So I'm going to try and establish that in Formula One and look for consistency in Formula One and then when you reach this consistency you want to look to the top results,” he added.
Additionally, he said that he is eagerly waiting to drive alongside Nico Hulkenberg in the next season.
It will be important to mention that the Hinwil based team has been considered as the toughest midfield rival and is the first team which has passed the mandatory FIA crash tests for the next year.
Furthermore, Sauber are now looking forward to make some essential advancement in their car during the winter testing. Let’s see they perform with their new driver line-up which includes Gutierrez and Hulkenberg in the coming year.
