Esther Choe takes second position at Daytona Beach Invitational 2012
American Esther Choe, who got off to a slow start at the Daytona Beach Invitational 2012, swung into action in the last two rounds and posted an overall score of 207 to grab the second position
on the leaderboard.
Choe started her first round at Florida, Daytona Beach, with a solid plan, but could not score big enough to help her rise to the top. The American star posted a 71 on Friday and struggled
to come into contention throughout the day.
However, the second round saw her improve her position on the leaderboard as she carded a 69, putting some pressure on nearest rivals.
A decent performance on Saturday helped the American golfer grab a position inside the top 20. However, she surprised the spectators on the course in the final round as she stormed to the
second position after registering a massive 67.
She kicked off the last round with plenty of vigour and scored her first birdie on the first hole. She then parred the second hole and launched another birdie on the par-3 third. On the front
nine, Choe launched a total of four birdies — something she desperately needed in order to stay ahead of her nearest rivals.
On the back nine, the golfing sensation could not maintain the same pace because she made mistakes on some holes. Having carded a birdie on the 11th hole, Choe parred the next two
holes but faltered on the difficult par-3 14th and ended up shooting a bogey.
On the 16th hole, Choe tried to offset the impact of bogey by sinking her sixth birdie.
The American golfer might have missed out on a chance to win a title at Daytona Beach Invitational 2012, but she was successful in winning the money title as she pocketed $55,690.
Daniela Iacobelli of the United States remained the strongest contender at the three-round tournament as she carded an overall 205 to clinch a two-shot victory over Choe. Iacobelli cheered
the spectators by displaying a flawless performance.
However, the winner took the fourth position on the money list as she racked up $41,049.
Observers said that Choe appeared to be the most favourite contender for the Symetra Tour tournament, given her vast experience and solid work ethic.
