Esther Nunez of Spain won gold medal of the Women’s 36km race at the Federation Internationale de Natation Amateur (FINA) Open Water Swimming Grand Prix 2012 in Capri-Napoli, Italy on Sunday, June 17.
The Capri-Napoli race is the fourth stop of the eight-leg FINA series that provides an opportunity to elite open water athletes to get ready for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Nunez demonstrated her stupendous efforts in the 36km event and faced no trouble in securing gold medal of the discipline. With her astonishing endurance and utter determination, she dominated the race from the start and reached the finishing line for gold medal.
With her alluring efforts, she remained considerably faster from her following rival and crossed the finishing end with the timing of 7 hours, 08 minutes and 02 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Anna Uvarova of Russia, who stayed nearly eleven minutes apart and transpired on the line with the timing of 7 minutes and 19.49 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was chased by Silvie Ribarova of Czech, who stayed almsot one minute behind and proved her mettle for bronze medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 7 hours, 20 minutes and 54 seconds.
Fourth position of the open water event was obtained by Pilar Geijo of Argentina, who stayed 12.96 seconds behind and finished fourth in the discipline by posting an effort of 7 hours, 33 minutes and 50 seconds.
Similarly, Geijo remained more than half a minute ahead of Nicoletta Simonazzi of Italy, who proved her eligibility for fifth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 8 hours, 17 minutes and 00 seconds.
Simonazzi was trailed by her teammate, Vanesa Rita Garcia, who stayed considerably slower from her over the finishing end and posted a time of 8 hours, 39 minutes and 11 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the event was accomplished by Noelia Petti of Argentina, who stayed nearly eighteen minutes away and reported a time of 8 hours, 57 minutes and 11 seconds.
Furthermore, fifth spot of the Grand Prix is scheduled in Canada at Lac St-Jean on July 28, where these swimmers will race each other.
